How would you apply for a driver’s permit trade
To set up an appointment, you must first get in touch with the SAAQ and visit a service outlet that has been designated for you.
Depending on your circumstance, you must bring different documents to the SAAQ. The SAAQ office is at 855 Boulevard in Montreal. West, Henri Bourassa, QC, H3L 1P3.
The license can take up to two or three months to schedule an appointment, typically lasting at least an hour. To avoid lengthy delays, try to schedule an appointment early.
To apply for a license exchange, you will typically need the following documents (originals, not copies):
- License for a foreign driver.
- Evidence of Canadian citizenship or the right to remain in the country.
- Documentation of residence in Quebec
- If you obtained your license within the previous three years, provide evidence of residency in the nation where it was issued.
- A translation is needed if your driver’s license is written in a language other than French or English.
Note: The permanent resident card is insufficient to obtain a license exchange, so permanent residents must bring their “Confirmation of Permanent Residence” document. If you need clarification on the required documents, contact the SAAQ.
