In Austria, how do you get a driver’s license?

The theoretical foundation of driver education:

In Austria, the theoretical portion of driving school takes 32 hours. The individual then chooses how intensely they want to study the theory: twice a week for eight weeks in a regular course, four hours a week for two weeks in an intensive course, or four hours a day for eight days in an expression system.

You must take a first aid course during or after the theoretical approach. It costs 55 euros to pay separately. This program lasts six hours and teaches the future driver things like closed-chest massage and artificial respiration.

A person will need to retake the course if they fail to pass the exams within a year and a half after receiving a certificate for the first aid course.

There are either one or two additional questions for each primary one. However, if the immediate question is answered incorrectly, it will not appear.

Each module has a total of twenty questions. As a result, there are 40 questions on the entire exam. Within a half-hour, you must respond to them.

The exam is considered passed if the candidate receives 80% of the required points. There is a separate evaluation for each module.

Free is the first attempt to pass the exam. You will be responsible for all subsequent costs.

The applicant will only be permitted to take the practical driving test if they pass their chosen category’s basic and module modules.

Driving test:

Category A1, A2, and A drivers must have completed 12 hours of practical driving. The person who selected category B ought to have 13 comparable hours. Category F applicants must complete four hours, etc.

Driving only takes 50 minutes for every hour of practical training.

According to Austrian law, driving with an instructor for at least six hours is required at the beginning of driving instruction. The student gets used to driving a car during the preparatory phase on the training site or autodrome. The initial training takes place in quiet areas with little traffic.

You can begin the practical driving test after passing the computerised theoretical exam and completing the practical training.

The exam is given in the wee hours of the morning. The candidate drives to the driving school, where the teacher meets him. He is the training party’s representative. Within a few minutes, the examiner arrives. Several students typically take the exam at a time. Applicants will be sent home if they fail the exam without a passport.

There are three parts to the Austrian practical exam:

  1. Examining the vehicle. This check ensures that the examinee knows the theory and can check a car’s safety. The student is asked questions about at least three of the following topics by the examiner.
  • Brake system.
  • Lighting, turning on and examining the various vehicle lighting types.
  • Warning signs like the horn, flashing side indicators, hazards, and intermittent light signal
  • Steering box: free wheeling check, front tire wear, electromechanical power steering, driving belt, and hydraulic power steering.
  • Sufficient view.
  • Checking the level of the liquids.
  • Work, poles, and liquid level in an accumulator
  • The belt for driving.
  • Check the cabin.
  • Car motor.
  1. Exercise on a quiet street or autodrome. Each examinee will have two requirements: parallel parking and backing into a park that runs similarly to it. Cones are typically placed sufficiently far, making this exam portion straightforward. Keep in mind the appropriate light signals.
  2. driving on the Autobahn or in a city. Before getting in the car, you should adjust the seat, the mirrors in the back, the headrests, the steering wheel, and the seatbelt before starting the engine. The applicant’s mistakes will be recorded in the exam report by the examiner, who will observe the applicant’s actions. The examiner gives the examinee instructions: always drive straight if there are no other instructions and “look for the nearest opportunity” if there is a command to turn. Then, as always: go to the designated location, turn left, and then park.

Each examinee must drive for at least 25 minutes. The examiner records the driving in a particular examination report. This entire time, the other candidate is in the backseat.

  1. Discussion of the situations that were experienced. After the driving test, the examinee may discuss his error and justify his actions with the examiner. If the reason was reasonable, the examiner cannot, at his discretion, note this error. The following scenarios are chosen as topics for such discussion in the examination report:
  • Selection of speed.
  • Selection of lane.
  • Choice of lateral margin and distance between cars.
  • Driving on motorways and the Autobahn.
  • Recognising dangerous circumstances.
  • Defensive strategies and an eco-friendly driving style
  • Perception, analysis, and forecasting of transportation and road conditions.
  • Each of the four sections of the practical exam takes at least 40 minutes to complete.
  • Driving licenses from outside the E.U. or the EEA issued in Austria: Austrian driving licenses from the European Economic Area or the European Union are accepted for an unlimited amount of time and can be converted at any time voluntarily.
